Introduction by
Pablo Perez

What inspired the creation of this photography book? The project began from a need to share my perspective, a wish to tell stories through images, and a curiosity about how a visual narrative could expand a viewer’s imagination.

Each photograph arose from a desire to explore specific themes — longing, movement, connection — and to allow memory and emotion to breathe in between each frame. There was a sense that only through careful observation could I uncover the subtleties and tensions that define a moment.

Can you talk about a specific image in the book and its story? There’s a memorable, funny story behind the photo I took with my driver in Saudi Arabia. One afternoon, he decided — for reasons I never learned — to pull over on an empty road. I was in the middle of documenting our journey and, without warning, he stepped out, struck a pose, and began singing a song from his childhood. The energy immediately shifted, the sun fell in a perfect line behind him, and I caught the scene in a single shot.

Each picture from that journey carries its own story, from quiet landscapes at sunrise to fleeting interactions in bustling city squares. Some images unfolded unexpectedly, others required patience or negotiation — with light, with weather, or with the people I encountered.

Sometimes, just as I thought nothing special would happen, an unexpected gesture, a look, or a coincidence would transform the everyday into something worth saving. It was in those instances that the camera felt like a passport to small miracles.

The process involved moments of uncertainty and exhaustion, setbacks with equipment or weather, and the challenge of finding meaning when inspiration felt distant. But these struggles became part of the book’s voice — proof that art is not just about perfection.
